The TEI Social Betterment Award celebrates the outstanding contributions of practicing evaluator(s) who exemplify the transformative potential of evaluation in driving societal progress. This prestigious award of $10,000 honors individuals or teams whose work has had a measurable and meaningful impact on society, advanced equity and inclusion, and strengthened the field of evaluation through collaboration and innovation.

Award amount: $10,000. In 2025, the award winner will be recognized at the 2025 WPA Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award winner may choose whether they would like to attend the award recognition event virtually or in person. Travel expenses to this event (up to $2,000) will be reimbursed. 

Award criteria: Recipients of the TEI Social Betterment Award are evaluated based on the following key dimensions:

  • Societal impact: Demonstrated success in improving societal outcomes (e.g., education, health, the environment, equity, public policy) through evaluation work that yields measurable, positive change
  • Equity and inclusion: A deep commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, with efforts that amplify the voices and needs of marginalized or underrepresented communities
  • Collaborative efforts & community endorsement: Strong evidence of meaningful collaboration with stakeholders, including policymakers, practitioners, and community members, and the ability to foster partnerships that extend the reach and impact of their work

Eligibility: This award is open to practicing evaluators (individuals or teams) from around the globe who demonstrate a commitment to social betterment.  Nominations and applications accepted. Through this award, we aim to celebrate the achievements of evaluators who inspire innovation, champion equity, and make meaningful contributions to the communities they serve.

Having previously taken a TEI course is not a requirement for award applicants/nominees. Please note that individuals employed as faculty members by The Evaluators’ Institute (TEI) or Claremont Graduate University (CGU) in 2024 or 2025 are not eligible for this award.
